About Us

The UK’s leading overnight maternity specialist – providing 11 years of peaceful nights for over 5000 parents…

Night Nannies was set up in 1999 in response to a need expressed by parents for help in establishing good sleep habits. Our aim is to provide discreet professional guidance in the first few weeks of a baby’s life, helping babies develop good sleep associations upon which they can build as they get older until they are sleeping through the night.

We can also teach older babies and toddlers to sleep through the night because we understand the disruption that bad sleep habits can cause within a family.

Each regional agency is run by someone who is a mother herself and can therefore understand the needs of her clients. They all take great pride in the quality of the teams they have built, personally interviewing each of the candidates in-depth, following up all references, checking all qualifications and ensuring that they have Enhanced CRB disclosures and First Aid certificates.

Once the Night Nanny is accepted by the agency, each client with whom the Night Nanny is placed will be asked for a reference to ensure that the information on each Night Nanny is completely up to date.

When a client calls any of our offices, you can expect to speak to the owner herself. She will spend time discussing the specific situation so that she can place the Night Nanny who is best-suited to the family. The client will be sent references and career history of a Night Nanny. The agency strongly advises parents to make their own enquiries and checks to satisfy themselves as to the suitability and experience of the Nanny. The agency will maintain contact with the family at regular intervals and will ask for a reference on completion of the placement.

Anastasia Baker, Founder and Director of the Night Nannies organisation, she runs the Central London Office.

Night Nannies was founded by former TV journalist, Anastasia Baker. She is the mother of two children – Amelia and Alexander. She worked at the BBC for eight years as a television presenter on BBC News 24 and a reporter on the current affairs programme “Here and Now”. Anastasia carried on working at the BBC when her daughter was born but found she struggled to hold down a demanding job with motherhood. It was the birth of her son, that gave her the idea of setting up Night Nannies.

“I found it increasingly difficult to get up every night to do two or three night feeds and then remain in a sane and alert state of mind during the day to work and be able to cope with my 20 month old daughter. I was desperate to find an experienced nanny who could come two or three nights a week to give us a rest and guide my baby to start sleeping through the night. None of the Agencies could help me. So I started Night Nannies.”

“Night Nannies is so unique because we are the first agency to specialise in this work. We have been running since 1999 and we now have a team of over 200 professional nannies out working most nights. Our nannies are so loyal – they stay with us, so every time they finish with a client, we get a reference and therefore we are able to track their performance accurately. There is nothing they don’t know about sorting out newborn routines, sleep and feeding issues.”

“The whole point of giving up presenting at the BBC was not to work all day every day. With the help of my manager, I have managed to achieve a wonderful balance between work and play. I am still able to pick up my children from school each day and see friends. I also contribute significantly to the household income.”

“My future plans for Night Nannies is to build on our reputation and continue to make this service as professional as possible. Recently we have produced Night Nanny goody bags which are given to new mothers in all the private maternity hospitals and private consultants. They are filled with gorgeous creams and useful products for new mums and babies. They have been a fantastic marketing tool for Night Nannies. I would also like to grow Night Nannies across the UK and Europe. Most importantly we are consolidating what we have built over the past eleven years. A professional service where mums can be helped within 24 hours of calling us.”
